Boys hope scoring boost is found

For the second straight game, a converted penalty kick was the deciding goal in a Northampton loss last Wednesday afternoon at J. Birney Crum Stadium versus Allen, 3-2.

The ball appeared to hit defender Matt Peluszak's hip but the officials called a handball in the box. Mohammed Aisset converted the PK with 1:58 remaning for the 3-2 Allen win.

Allen opened the scoring just 1:08 into the match. Cameron Rockwell used his speed to dribble down the right wing and slotted a perfect ball across the box where Anibal Mendez finished.

Northampton used the same tactic to tie the match 1-1 three minutes into the second half.

Zach Penrose played a ball from near the endline to A.J. Schroettner who blasted the ball past keeper Trevor Rockwell.

The seesaw game continued when Mendez scored his second goal four minutes later.

For most of the second half, the Kids tried to muster up the attack by playing the ball wide on the turf and applying pressure on the Allen backs. Northampton finally got to tie it against, this time 2-2 with 15 minutes left. Schroettner used his superb dribbling skills to manuever around the defense and as he was getting tripped, fed a ball to Steven Kemmerer. Kemmerer got just enough of his foot on the ball to put it past the keeper.

Unfortunately a win wasnt in the cards with the handball call and Allen stole another important EPC game.

"We need to play harder and with a better sense of purpose. Our schedule continues to get harder as we flow along," coach Carvin said.

Northampton scored three times in a wild second half to notch a 4-2 win Friday afternoon at Wolf Field versus visiting Bethlehem Catholic.

Zach Penrose scored two goals off of free kicks to lead the way. He also assisted on the team's first goal of the game when he fed Cameron Peploe in the first half.

Chad O'Donnell scored what would be the game-winning goal with 5:42 to play, finishing a ball off of a pass from A.J. Schroettner. It was O'Donnell's first career varsity goal.

Penrose's second goal came with 1:47 to go, giving the Kids some needed insurance. His goal was a beautifully-placed, upper-90 shot that also touched the inside of the crossbar.

It was a hard-fought comeback win for Northampton, who went down 2-0 midway through the first half.

The team looked sluggish in play and Coach Carvin pleaded with the team at half for better, more inspring play.

Penrose's first goal seemed to lift the spritis of the squad as once they got the tie they played a lot better. All three second half goals came in the final 18 minutes.

Scoring one every 6 minutes should be a boost of confidence towards the team that plays Parkland, Emmaus and Whitehall next week.
