Kids snap losing streak

Northampton's 19-game losing streak, dating back to the 2012 season, was officially put to bed last Friday night following the Kids 40-6 victory over Allen.

First-year Northampton head coach Mark Scisly knows it was an important hurdle to get over, as he looks to transform the Kids into winners.

"It was definitely exciting for the team," he said of last week's convincing win. "To win the way we did was good for us. The kids have worked hard all offseason and they earned it."

Northampton,as expected, had little trouble downing Allen last week, as they ran the ball 52 times for 336 yards, led by Andrew Szerencsits' 136-yards and one score.

Devon Turner followed suit with 106 yards on the ground, as eight different players carried the ball last week for Northampton en route to building a 27-0 lead at halftime.

This week, however, Northampton comes into reality of what they have to deal with in the East Penn Conference South, as they prep for Friday's 7pm clash with Parkland (1-0).

The Trojans played their starters only a half in last week's 49-7 victory over Dieruff.

Parkland moved up in the state rankings to sixth overall in 4A this past week to give Scisly his first taste of what the dominant Trojans bring to the table.

"We just can't give up the big play against them," said Scisly about Parkland. "Dieruff had them in a lot of third down situations and third and longs. All of sudden they would break a big play. Our players have been underdogs for the past two years in most games they've played, so we're going to give our best Friday night to try and slow them [Parkland] down."

Scisly will rely on his rushing attack to set a foundation this week, but knows he'll probably need more out of quarterback Cory Croll, who was 3-of-7 for 45 yards and touchdown to go along with an interception in the Allen contest.

"We really didn't need to throw the ball against Allen," Scisly said. "We kept going with the run because it was working. We just need to get better everyday. If we can establish the run game against Parkland, it'll open up our play-action, which will be important against a team like that."
