LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Ay, matey, it's pirate week at Camp Cementon

The boys and girls at Camp Cementon enjoyed pirate week. On Monday we started out by playing everyone's favorite games including jump the river, dodge ball and the new favorite, Pac Man. Tuesday was a fun filled day. The campers made bookmarks for the Whitehall Township Public Library using water guns filled with paint. The bookmarks were all very creative and unique.

On Wednesday each child made a pirate paper plate mask to take home. Each camper was given a plate and could pick any craft materials. We have some really creative campers. Their masks turned out great!

Everyone at Camp Cementon enjoyed our trip to the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway on Thursday. Many of them never experienced a train ride before so this was a very exciting day. Joshua R commented, "I can't wait to touch a real train!" The campers' excitement was evident as they all boarded with huge smiles on their faces. We departed from the old train station in Jim Thorpe and took a 16-mile ride past Glen Onoko Falls and various other landmarks. The narrator told us all about the history of the area and the Central Railroad of New Jersey, which had its station in downtown Jim Thorpe. We sat in "open air" cars. It was a unique experience to feel the air rushing by while looking at all the cool scenery.

Every week our camp has a different theme and this Friday was costume day. All the children and counselors participated. It was like Halloween in July. There was a mini fashion show and then awards were given out for all the different costumes. Jackson M., dressed as a pirate, took home best costume award. He went all out with an eye patch, hook, and even an earring.

Every week is something different at camp but the favorite past time for every camper is the pool. They spent time each day cooling off in the afternoons up at the pool.

Our campers of the week were Jade A. and Dallas D. They participated in everything and had outstanding behavior. They also loved helping others. As the summer comes to a close we are all looking forward to the last few weeks of camp.
