Bath wins title
Bath swept their way through the NORCO Legion postseason and are now trying to stay alive in the Region 2 American Legion Baseball Tournament.
After sweeping the Birches in two games and finishing the series with a 5-4 victory last week to win the NORCO crown, Bath focused their efforts on regionals, which started with a loss.
Norchester dealt the local champions a 4-3 loss in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament last weekend to pit them in the losers bracket.
That loss snapped a nine-game win streak for Bath, who went 6-0 in the NORCO playoffs en route to their fifth overall title in NORCO and first since 2012.
Former Liberty ace, Mike Horvath, kept Bath's postseason alive on Monday afternoon, pitching his way to a complete game 4-2 victory over Pine Grove.
The win set up Bath (19-9) with a battle against Bucks-Mont League champion Nor-Gwyn in Tuesday's fourth round of the tournament, where Bath stayed alive with a 6-2 win.
That moved Bath into Wednesday's final slate of action, which showed the team's grit, since they lost their opener of the tournament, but battled back to reach the final day.
Yesterday's results are past Press deadlines, but Bath had a shot at the title under the scenarios below.
Bath was slated to take on Norchester at 12:30pm in an elimination game, since both teams already had one loss.
The winner of that contest moved on to play North Parkland in the championship later that afternoon.
Since North Parkland lost their first game of the tournament to Norchester on Tuesday, that left three teams with one loss entering the final day.
North Parkland moved into the championship round automatically after going undefeated in the winner's bracket.
If Bath won their first game yesterday and then defeated North Parkland, they would be crowned champions.
