Lehigh Twp. makes playoffs, Moore just short
The Lehigh Township Connie Mack team is headed to the playoffs.
While games were rained out Monday, things are expected to get under way Tuesday - if the weather permits.
LT will take on Nazareth in a best-of-three series. The winner will advance to states.
"One thing that I love with this team is they are fighters," said first-year head coach Tom Onusconich. "We have had nine, one-run games with us being on the losing end six times. But these kids, they don't give up. I am glad we made it into the playoffs because these kids deserve it.
"We had kids step up when they needed to, either with big hits or even when I needed someone to throw a few innings."
Lehigh Township, which also had some Northampton kids on the team, ended up 10-9 this season. But, they got off to a slow start, including a 13-0 loss to Lehigh Bethlehem.
"At that point we only had two practices together and after that we really came together," Onusconich said. "We were in every game and even the ones we lost we always had a chance to win, so that in itself is a really huge accomplishment.
"The kids are really excited to be in the playoffs, we made it to the playoffs last year, but I only have maybe three kids from that team. And the kids from NAA are really excited."
LT is coming off a win over top-seed Pocono Mountain East, which Onusconich hopes the team can build off in the postseason.
"Our big win was against the number-one team and our very last game was probably the best game we played all year," Onusconich said. "So we are going into the playoff on a good note and with some momentum."

Unfortunately for Moore Township, they just ran out of season.
The team dropped its final game and finished one game out of the playoffs. However, they made quite a push at the end to give it their best shot. Moore knocked off Lehigh Township 3-1 behind the pitching of Ryan Werley and a timely hit from Owen Thomas.
That was followed by another big win over Catty, 7-1. John Periera went seven innings and fanned 12 batters. Austin Brooks had three singles and the red-hot Tanner Smith chipped in as well.
"It was a good season as a whole, fantastic group of young men," said Moore coach Bob Brooks.
Three players took part in last weekend's all-star game at Limeport: Ryan Werley, Jesse Yentsch, and Austin Brooks played. C.J. Gants was voted in but wasn't able to play.
"They all made us look good there making the plays when they got the chance and always hustling," Brooks added. "Any one of the kids on my team could of gone and would have done just fine."
Brooks said the team will be looking at fall baseball to prep for next spring. Moving on next year will be Werley, Jesse Yentsch, Hunter Moore as well as Mark and John Periera. Brooks said all will be very hard to replace.
