Girls can't wait to get back on the court

Fifteen days since their last game and Northampton's girls basketball team cannot wait to get back into action.

The Konkrete Kids beat Pennsbury 73-57 in their last game on Dec. 26, and haven't been able to get in much practice and games since then because of the weather.

The Kids had two Lehigh Valley Conference games - at Emmaus and at home with Dieruff - wiped out by snow or cold weather postponements and don't return to action until tonight (Thursday) against Parkland at home.

And that Parkland game was postponed by snow back on Dec. 7, and it is a special fundraiser for Autism Speaks.

Meanwhile, a nonleague game at home with Pleasant Valley has been rebooked for Jan. 23, and last Friday's LVC game at Emmaus is reset for next Monday, Jan. 13. Tuesday's game with Dieruff has not been rescheduled as of yet.

"When we practice, which isn't often because of our gym schedule with the boys' team, we are still working mainly on our defenses like rotations and back screens," said coach Jeff Jacksits.

"We're not bored or rusty, but we can't wait to play again. We looked a lot better in our win over Pennsbury."

"Sterner (Leandra) is our leading scorer, but she is starting to deliver the ball much better and is picking up more assists. We're getting consistent games from Aja (Blount) and Giovanna (Martinez) and lately more help from Ali (Reppert)," said Jacksits.

"But we still need help from the rest of the squad. They are doing their share, but need to do more," the coach added.

Starting with the Parkland game tonight the Kids begin a busy schedule by playing six game sin ten days.

Following the Parkland game, the Kids visit high-powered Bethlehem Catholic on Friday, then visit Emmaus on Monday and entertain Freedom Tuesday. After that it's another LVC game at perennial power Central Catholic next Friday before taking on Pocono Mountain West in a nonleague game Saturday.
