Kids aiming for first win

It may be matchup between two teams that have a combined 1-13 record this season, but this week's football game between Northampton and Freedom is meaningful to both programs.

With three games left in the regular season, opportunity for victory have been sparse for both parties as they enter Saturday night's tilt at Nazareth.

For Northampton, it's an opportunity to have their first feeling of victory all season, something that head coach Jeff Brosky is looking forward to.

"I think our guys are anxious and motivated," said Brosky of the anticipation this week. "I think we matchup with them across the board and that's something we really haven't been able to do with a lot of our opponents this year. There's a new excitement with the staff and players this week and we hope to come away with the win."

Freedom (1-6) lost to Parkland 21-0 last week, while the Kids (0-7) fell to Easton 28-7. Brosky took some positive points from last week's loss, as the Kids trailed 14-7 at halftime to Easton before allowing two second half scores. Easton's Shane Simpson ran for 142 yards and three scores to pace the Rovers. It was the first time all season Northampton held an opponent under 40 points, as they look to make that a trend this week with the Patriots struggling offense coming to town.

Freedom's offense has averaged just over eight points a game this year, with their highest total coming in week two's 14-7 victory over Central Catholic. The Kids lost to Central 42-7 earlier this year, but Brosky knows that contest was a different story since Northampton was dealing with injuries across the line.

"We had a lot of changes in that game because of guys getting hurt," Brosky said. "I don't think you can look at that score and make a real comparison between both teams. I think we match up well with Freedom across the line and I think we're going to be able to score some points this week."

Scoring points and making plays are hopefully part of the Kids formula this week to get off this losing skid, as Brosky understands a victory would go a long way for this group.

"I think it's a pretty big game for both teams," he said. "It's a big deal to get a win in this conference. It'll build some confidence and help us play at a higher level."
