Menotti's 'Amahl' at Trinity Church

Gian-Carlo Menotti's opera, "Amahl And The Night Vistiors," will be presented, 7 p.m. Jan. 18 and 3 p.m. Jan. 20, Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 E. Market St., Bethlehem.

The lead roles are performed by William Walton (Amahl), Michele Giletto (Amahl's mother), Robert Cohen (King Kaspar), Doug Helfrich (King Melchoir), Jeff Gross (King Balthazar) and Michael Pesavento (the Page).

The opera is under the direction of Michael Pesavento and the accompanist is Nancy Shumaker.

The story is set during the Christian liturgical season of Epiphany. The opera tells the story of Amahl, a young peasant shepherd boy who can only walk with the aid of a staff. He and his mother are surprised one night by three kings who are seeking shelter. The action which follows is a display of response to temptation as well as to generosity and sacrifice.

Tickets are expected to be available at the door. There is a suggested donation. Children 12 and under are free.
