NWL field hockey beats Palmerton, NL

The Northwestern Lehigh field hockey team added a pair of wins in Colonial League games recently but dropped a nonleague challenge against powerhouse Crestwood from District 2.

The Tigers moved to 11-5-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the Colonial League.

The wins in league games were both shutouts as Northwestern downed Palmerton 6-0 and Northern Lehigh 5-0.

In the win over the Blue Bombers, the Tigers’ six goals were scored by six different players. Evelyn Alboucq, McKenna Church, Bekah Gottlieb, Asha Kalolo, Madelyn Lagowy, and Nora Peterson all scored in the game. The goal by Kalolo was her first of the season. Riley Stout added an assist for the Lady Tigers.

Northwestern has had a balanced attack throughout the season with five players bunched together in scoring. Stoudt leads the team with eight goals, followed closely by Church (6), Alboucq (5), Peterson (4), and Gottlieb (3).

In goal, sophomore Charlotte Gober has 82 saves, and an 85-percent save percentage this season, her first as a starter.

The Tigers have a playoff spot waiting for them in both the Colonial League and District 11 Class A tournaments.

In districts, Northwestern enters this week as the number two seed, just behind Pen Argyl and just ahead of Saucon Valley.

In league play, the Tigers have one final game remaining against Lehighton and will finish with either the third or fourth seed. The playoffs for the Colonial League begin Saturday.
