Trojans top Allen, fall to Whitehall
The Parkland High School boys soccer team split a pair of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games last week, falling for just the second time in conference competition this season.
The Trojans shutout Allen 3-0 last Monday, Sept. 28, but then dropped a 2-1 game against Whitehall last Thursday night. Their three losses on the year have all been by just one goal.
“It’s a little bit of misfortune for sure,” said Parkland head coach Scott Mang. “The bounce of the ball the other way and we could be talking about being unbeaten, but that’s the sport. The guys have continued to battle all season.”
In the victory over the Canaries, Eddie Curelar finished with two goals and Evan Smith added the third. Zayan Yasir tallied two assists. Matt Feiller made six saves in net for the win.
In the game with the Zephyrs, Ethan Frey recorded the lone goal his team, with the assist going to Alex Hurwitz.
While Whitehall scored twice, Parkland outshot the visitors 9-4 on goal. Feiller finished with two saves in goal.
“Whitehall played us tough,” Mang said. “They went on the road and gave us a game. We’ll bounce back, we need games like that to keep us challenged heading into the postseason.”
Parkland, which moved to 10-3 overall and 10-2 in the conference, had a light week of action with just one game, as they were at Pocono East this past Wednesday. The Trojans conclude the regular season with two games next week, one on the road and one at home. They are at
Pocono Mountain West Monday afternoon and then host rival Emmaus in the home and season finale Wednesday night.
