CHS looks to keep it going

For Catasauqua, it was a complete-game victory.

The Rough Riders played well in all three phases in a 50-7 rout of Palisades last week, and posted their second consecutive victory. Over those two weeks, the Roughies (3-5) outscored their opponents, 80-20.

Catty will now keep their momentum building when they host Salisbury (3-5) Friday night in their final home game at Alumni Field.

Head coach Joe Henrich was pleased with another all-around effort.

He cited quarterback Aiden Reilly, running back Joziah Martinez, and running back/wide receiver Solomon Mosby for their showings.

Reilly had a four-touchdown night, as he was eight of 11 for 128 yards with two touchdowns passing and rushed for 109 yards with two scores (one a 50-yarder). Martinez ran for 98 yards with a score, and Mosby ran for 67 yards and caught two passes for 40 yards with a score.

The Roughies accumulated 526 yards of total offense with 398 yards rushing.

“It was a good game,” beamed Henrich. “We were definitely firing on all cylinders. I thought our kids were aggressive and physical. Aiden played awesome, and Joziah ran the ball well. Solomon had some big plays, but we had a lot of guys contributing and blocking hard.”

Henrich also was impressed with the line play.

“Our offensive line is growing and getting better every week,” added Henrich. “Our defense is getting after it.”

Reilly likes what he has seen from his team.

“We are playing some of our best football right now,” beamed Reilly. “We as a team have really come to understand the standard of what the program has set for us. We have really built up a lot of confidence in the last three weeks.”

Salisbury is coming off a 31-7 drubbing of Pen Argyl last week. Henrich anticipates a tight battle.

“Salisbury is on a two-game winning streak as well,” said Henrich. “I am sure they are feeling good. They have some big guys and some really nice athletes on the back end.”

ROUGHIE RITES: Catty won last year’s game, 33-7, and the Roughies have won four of the last five contests with Salisbury winning 42-25 in 2024. Both teams had five-game losing streaks this season. The last time Catty scored 50 points was in 2023 in a 55-6 win over Panther Valley, and they registered a 53-6 win over Salisbury in 2022 ... Reilly has completed 73 of 154 passes for 694 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. Martinez has 395 yards with seven touchdowns and Ruben Concepcion has 307 yards with four touchdowns for the season. Jayden Buonanno ran for 46 yards and scored his first touchdown of the season ... Ari Wright leads the team in tackles with 50, Chase Kratochvil has 36, and Jonell Rosado has 35. Catty is averaging 5.6 yards rushing per carry, but they are allowing 5.06 per carry rushing ... Salisbury comes into the game on a two-game winning streak with victories over Palisades and Pen Argyl. The Falcons are led by senior quarterback Keaton Frye, who also is their leading rusher, and wide receiver/safety AJ Moran

PREDICTION (My season record 7-1): Catty can’t let this one slip away. They are playing better on both sides of the ball, and many younger players are stepping up. The Roughies are in fourth place in the District 11 Class 2A bracket and can pick up some points with a win over 3A Salisbury. If the postseason opened today, they would meet Northern Lehigh. They can’t afford a loss with fifth-place Mahanoy Area on their heels. It should be a quick night before temperatures begin hovering around the freezing mark. Coach Snyder can pick me up a couple of bags of pierogies ... ROUGHIES, 33-14.

Aiden Reilly, shown here in a game from earlier this year, had a big game against Palisades this past week and looks to keep it going against Salisbury.
