Tiger golfers go 11-1 in league play
The Northwestern golf team finished a one-loss Colonial League campaign with a win over Palmerton Monday.
The Tigers went 11-1 in league matches this season, their best win-loss record in program history. Their only loss came to unbeaten Southern Lehigh.
The team finished in second place in the league standings and second in the District 11 Class 2A rankings, which means Northwestern qualified for the District 11 team tournament. With Southern Lehigh playing in the Class 3A district tournament, the Tigers should like their chances against the three teams that have secured a place in team districts in Schuylkill Haven, Moravian Academy and Notre Dame of Green Pond.
In Monday’s 415-434 win over Palmerton, the Tigers had five players finish within five strokes of one another. Cole Dynda led the way with an 80, followed by Jake Kozlowski (82), Skylar Kern (84), Wagner Sarocco (84) and Ike Burns (85).
The Blue Bombers’ Jared Grammes had the low round of the match with a 1-over par 73 at Olde Homestead.
Northwestern beat Pen Argyl 388-448 last Thursday at Riverview.
Dynda earned medalist honors with a 73 in the match, followed by teammates Kozlowski (77), Mason Malosh (79), Sarocco (79) and Braydon Heckler (80).
Michael Stein’s 79 was the low score for the Green Knights in the match.
The Tigers beat Lehighton 382-484 last Tuesday, Sept. 8 with the top five Northwestern scorers again carding scores no more than five strokes apart.
Sarocco led Northwestern with a 73. Dynda shot 76. Kozlowski carded a 77. Kern and Malosh posted 78s.
The Indians were led by Mikey D’Amico’s even-par 72 for the low round of the match at Olde Homestead.
The Tigers have a nonleague match with Parkland slated for this week. They will compete in the Colonial League Championship tournament next week with the District 11 individual qualifier the following week and the district championship tournament in the first week of Oct.
