Evans’ goal beats Bulldogs

The Emmaus High School girls soccer team has had a perfect start to its 2026 regular season. The Hornets have won their first three games, with one nonleague win and two in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. All three came via shutout.

Emmaus began its season on Saturday, Aug. 29, at home against Wilson West Lawn, and defeated the Bulldogs 1-0. That following Tuesday, the Hornets hit the road for their conference opener and took down Pocono Mountain East 8-0. Last Thursday Emmaus beat Central Catholic 2-0 at Memorial Field.

In the victory over Wilson West Lawn, the goal came in the second half from freshman forward Brooke Evans on an assist by Lizzie Bender. Zoe Reppert finished with six saves in goal, saving all six shots she saw. Emmaus finished with nine shots.

“We made a few tactical adjustments to neutralize Wilson’s midfield, creating more passing lanes and space for our forwards,” said Hornet head coach Chris Hain. “That allowed Lizzy Bender to play a great ball to Brooke Evans, who got behind Wilson’s defense and scored with a well-placed shot into the far corner.”

In the win against the Cardinals, five different players accounted for the eight goals, with Evans, Bender and Giuliana Meyer all finishing with two goals each. Dempsey Hochbein and Cecelia Lower both tallied a goal. Cecilia Albeck contributed two assists and Evans, Sophia Shutkufski, Koli Esterly and Blair Stephens had an assist each. Reppert and Morgan Betz split time in goal, but neither faced a shot. Emmaus outshot PME 12-0 overall.

Against the Vikettes, Bender and Evans were at it again as the former scored the opening goal via a penalty kick in the first half and the later added the insurance goal late in the second half. Reppert totaled six saves.

“We played a great game from start to finish with high energy and several strong early chances,” Hain said. “Our back line (Cecelia Lower, Lilly Desiderio, Ella Daly, Koli Esterly, and Hanna Berk) played a huge role in the win by shutting down Central’s attack.

“The midfield also performed exceptionally well defensively and created numerous attacking opportunities, while the rest of the front line put in a strong performance.”

Emmaus has two EPC road contests this week, the first one is Wednesday at Pocono Mountain West and the second is at Bethlehem Catholic on Friday.

The Hornets are back at home next Tuesday against Northampton.
