Cari reaches milestone

The Emmaus High School boys soccer team continued its strong start to the 2026 regular season last week by winning all three of its games in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

Along with the success on the field, head coach John Cari also earned a career milestone, win No. 365, which is the most wins by a head coach in Lehigh Valley high school boys soccer history.

The Hornets began the week with a 2-0 road victory at Northampton last Tuesday, Sept. 15, and then blanked Dieruff 4-0 Thursday before holding on to beat Easton 2-1 on Saturday. The win against the Huskies was the milestone game for Cari.

In the victory over the Kids, Emmaus scored a goal in each half as Caeden Thornton found the back of the net just two minutes in and then Brennan Stack scored off an assist from Noah Delgado in the second half. The Hornets outshot Northampton 21-7 overall and 7-3 on net. They held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Chase Evans finished with three saves for the win.

In the win against the Huskies, there were two goals in each half for Emmaus. Anthony Suida tallied a goal in both halves and both Stack and Noah Tintle had one. Gabe Reyes, Maseyn Muthard and Noah Wachtner all contributed an assist. The Hornets recorded 24 shots, 16 on goal and had 13 corners. The goalie trio of Evans, Nate Schalles and Jibreel Naiem were not forced into action.

Stack tallied a goal in the first half and Suida the second and then the defense had to hold firm late to walk away with the victory at the Red Rovers. Jeremy Sharpless and Caleb Brown both added an assist. Evans made three saves in goal. The Hornets outshot Easton 8-5, but both teams had four shots on net and also four corner kicks.

Emmaus, which improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference, has its busiest week of the season this week, competing in four games, all EPC matches. The Hornets hosted Freedom Monday, are at East Stroudsburg South Wednesday, welcome Stroudsburg to Memorial Field Friday and take on Liberty Saturday.
