Freedom’s field hockey team ended its scoring drought with a 4-1 victory over Whitehall on Sept. 10 at Freedom.

“I think we were just tired of losing,” said Freedom first-year head coach Megan Leadbetter. “We had a great practice last night, and we had fun. Once the first goal went in, it uplifted everyone.”

Riley Luther’s penalty stroke was the first of her career and the first goal for the Patriots this season.

“It was really exciting and a big moment,” Luther said. “It was just me and the goalie. I just went for it. I think it helped bring the offense up, and hopefully we’ll keep it going into the next game.”

Cameron Evans scored for the Pates with 28 seconds left in the first quarter to make the score, 2-0.

Kerigan Dreisbach brought Whitehall within one goal on an assist by Zoe Bissinger in the second quarter.

Dreisbach also made two nice runs shortly before halftime, but the Zephyrs were unable to score again before the break.

Peyton Haas and Nicole Jones scored their first career goals for Freedom in the second half.

“Everything I’ve asked, they’ve done,” said Coach Leadbetter, who noted that every girl on the Patriot bench played. “They see and feel and know they’re working hard.”

Alexis Horvath made 4 saves for Freedom.

Elizabeth Ogunsemore made 7 saves for Whitehall.

The girls were 6-3 winners over Wilson.

The Warriors got on the board first but the Zephs responded with two goals by Ella Grohotolsky, the second assisted by Shahd Momari.

But Wilson would take the lead back with a goal from Payton Brad and then Aerianna Leidy, who also scored the first of the game.

Senior returner Kerigan Dreisbach then took over, tying the game at 3-3 and then giving the Zephs the lead for good, 4-3, with her second-straight tally. Grohotolsky then got her hat trick with her third goal before Zoe Bissinger made it 6-3. Both of those goals were assisted by Dreisbach whole factored in on four-straight Whitehall goals.

The girls also found the back of the net in a 7-2 win over East Stroudsburg South.

Dreisbach scored first on a pass from Kendal Fedorak before ESS tied it at 1-1.

Grohotolsky broke the tie to make it 2-1 on a pass from Evelyn Hudak before Dreisbach scored again to make it 3-1.

ESS’s Elizabeth Amundsen scored her second goal of the game to cut it to 3-2 before Dreisbach took over again, scoring three of the final four goals.

Khloe Vixamar also scored.

Jayleen Kassis and Bissinger added assists.
