In a boys soccer match of unbeatens, Freedom remained undefeated with a 4-0 victory over Whitehall on Sept. 9 at Freedom.

The Zephyrs found themselves in a scoring drought, up against a Patriot team that hadn’t conceded a goal yet.

“I appreciate the work rate of my defenders and the whole team because we work off the ball, mostly, so we can compress and control the whole space on the field,” said Freedom coach Farid Bayramli. “This is a whole team effort that we’re not conceding any goals.”

Luca Nagy scored his first goal of the season in the 35th minute to give the Pates a 1-0 halftime lead.

“First half was just, I didn’t expect in the first half we were gonna play so excited and rushing every ball and going forward all the time, and I just had a quick talk at halftime, and I rotated a lot of players, and that’s why we scored three goals in the second half,” Coach Bayramli said.

Kai Aschenbrenner opened the second half with a goal on an assist by Tommy Panik.

Whitehall’s best offensive chance came in the 52nd minute with a shot on goal that was smothered by Ben Rodriguez.

Whitehall goalie Bryson Taylor made two nice saves- one on a Freedom header and the other on the ground.

In the 68th minute, Omer Omana Gaviria took a pass from Edmund Gyori for the Patriots’ third goal.

“I did a shoutout before that, and I started to the right, and I thought, I’m gonna shoot it to the left, and I did, and it went in,” Omana Gaviria said.

Six minutes later, Caden Grimmer shot to the far post, but the ball landed right in front of the goal.

“We had a good recycling to the middle, and Luca Nagy found me through, and I hit it, and it went off the post,” Grimmer said. “We want to pride ourselves on passing the ball around, and keeping possession, and tiring out the other team. We don’t want to force it up. We want to find the chances when we get them.”

Omana Grimmer laid the ball in for the Pates’ fourth goal.

“I saw the keeper, and I faked it, and I saw the goal was wide open,” he said. “I was waiting for that, just waiting for that moment. It’s early in the season, and it feels really great doing this.”

The boys did earn a recent tie with East Stroudsburg South.

Eastburg scored two first half goals but the Zephyrs responded with two of their own in the second half to earn a draw.

Whitehall’s Jacobo Valencia and William Figueroa each scored in the tie.

Mohammed Cisse and Rowan McAllister scored in the first half for Eastburg South.

The Zephs were outshot 7-5 in the first half but turned it on in the second, outshooting Eastburg 10-2.

Bryson Taylor made seven stops in next for Whitehall.
