Lower Macungie Township will hold its second annual Trunk or Treat noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at Quarry Park, 7909 Quarry Road, Alburtis. The library has partnered with Plant a Row Lehigh to collect fresh produce for Casa Guadalupe in Allentown. Donations are accepted Mondays and Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Oct. 8 and can be placed in a cooler inside the library.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A new program, Veterans Lounge, will meet 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 for veterans to connect with other veterans. The meeting on Oct. 21 will feature Lehigh County Office of Veterans Affairs Director Tom Applebach presenting Moral Injury and War.

LML Afternoon Book Club will meet 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 17 to discuss “Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade” by Janet Skeslien Charles. The book for Oct. 15 is “James” by Percival Everett. The book club meets at the library.

Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will accept book donations 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and 14 at the Friends Shed in the parking lot.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the fire station on Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on fire prevention, fire truck tours, state police participation and family-friendly community events.

A free document shredding event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot. Residents can bring up to four bags or boxes. This event is cosponsored by Lower Macungie Township, Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-16th, and Rep. Gary Day, R-187th.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will next meet Oct. 6 with entertainment by Jeff Krick Jr. as Elvis. New members are welcome and must be township residents age 60 or older.

The board of commissioners and staff are holding the 21st annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents serving in the armed forces who will not be home for the holidays. Lower Macungie Community Center will collect new children’s pajamas and books through Dec. 11. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection. Yard waste collection is the week of Sept. 28.

Leaf collection begins Oct. 12 and continues through Nov. 30. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.
