A 31-year-old Reading man died after the Kawasaki motorcycle he was operating was involved in a crash with a 1997 Freightliner dump truck about 8:50 a.m. Sept. 14 on Route 222 North near Cetronia Road in Upper Macungie Township.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio, Francis M. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at 9:48 a.m. in the emergency department at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township.

In a news release, Buglio said Gonzalez died from multiple blunt-force injuries. The manner of death was ruled accidental. Buglio said Gonzalez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

According to Upper Macungie Township police, the dump truck was traveling northbound when it was unable to stop and struck the motorcycle from behind. Police said the dump truck driver, a 37-year-old man from Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center, Upper Macungie Township Police Department, Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office and Lehigh County Crash Team are investigating the crash.
