An Allentown man will serve up to 20 years in state prison in a pharmacy burglary and shooting in Fountain Hill in December 2024.

The Lehigh County District Attorney’s office, in a recent press release, announced Miguel Angel Martinez, 57, of Allentown, was ordered to serve eight to 20 years in state prison.

In May, Martinez pleaded guilty to felony charges of conspiracy to commit burglary and burglary as well as a misdemeanor charge of possessing instruments of crime, according to authorities.

Details of the burglary were outlined as follows:

On Dec. 24, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., Fountain Hill police officers responded to a burglar alarm at Fountain Hill Pharmacy, 1049 Broadway.

Officers saw two people in the store.

The people in the pharmacy later were identified as Martinez and David Montes Vazquez, 34, of Bethlehem, who also is charged in the burglary.

Vazquez pointed a gun at a Fountain Hill police officer “who opened fire but did not hit” Martinez or Vazquez, according to authorities.

The burglary led to a standoff during which nearby residents were ordered to stay inside their homes.

Martinez and Vasquez “eventually surrendered to police,” according to the press release.

The men, according to police, “broke into the pharmacy, spray painted cameras while inside and stole medication,” according to authorities.

The cameras were used for surveillance in the store.

Vasquez is charged with felony counts of alleged conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of a firearm prohibited.

He also faces charges of burglary and receiving stolen property as well as misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to recklessly endangering another person, conspiracy to make repairs/sell an offensive weapon, conspiracy to possession of a weapon and conspiracy to theft by unlawful taking.
