East Allen denies zoning request

At the July 9 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the supervisors denied a request from the developer of the Miller’s Manufactured Home Community to amend the zoning district of tax parcel K5-13-11-0508, located at 8230 Airport Road.

The request was to amend both the text and maps of the zoning ordinance to allow the expansion of the current nonconforming mobile home park to permit a maximum of 28 units. Representatives of the Miller’s Manufactured Home Community requested the supervisors vote for the change and any issues can be refused or agreed to at a later meeting.

The applicant presented the requested amendment for the zoning changes to the township’s planning commission May 7. The planning commission recommended the supervisors deny the applicant’s request.

Despite the presentation by the project’s representatives, the supervisors voted 5-0 to deny the applicant’s request.

In other business, Chuck Frantz, township summer camp leader, reported this year’s camp is going well. Frantz showed up with his head camp counselors and team to introduce them to the supervisors. Several counselors are heading to a university or college, and other counselors are first-time counselors still in high school.

Frantz noted, to date, the campers had a visit from the Wildlands Conservancy, took a trip to Hampton Lanes in Northampton and attended an IronPigs game. More activities are planned for the rest of camp. Frantz noted the weekly visit of the large ice cream truck is very popular with the campers and counselors alike.

The supervisors passed resolution 2026-009 that approves a conditional final plan for a lot line adjustment for 6893 Steuben Road. All resolutions and ordinances are available for review by visiting eatwp.org or calling the township office.

Supervisors approved a security release for the new East Allen Elementary School on Route 329 in the amount of $1,028,121.24 for completed site improvements. The remaining escrow balance is $1,551,043.02.

A recommendation to approve a request for security for the Snowdrift Road Self Storage in the amount of $126,919.94 was stricken from the agenda. No reason for the change in the agenda was provided.

The supervisors approved the minutes of the June 11 supervisors meeting. The board approved general fund checks totaling $210,503.66, fire fund checks in the amount of $6,1987 and a historical society check for $500.

The next East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 7 p.m. July 23 in the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org to review the agenda and to access the meeting virtually.
