Coplay: VBS planned for July 20-24

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., and Grace United Church of Christ, 902 Lincoln Ave., Northampton, are teaming up to hold Vacation Bible School 6:30-8 p.m. July 20-24 at St. John’s social hall. The VBS theme is Beach Trek.

All children in preschool through eighth grade are invited to join. There will be Bible stories, lively songs, crazy crafts, water games, snacks and more.

The 72nd annual St. Peter Roman Catholic Church picnic and homecoming is set for noon-9 p.m. Aug. 2 on the church grounds, 4. S. Fifth St. It will be held rain or shine.

There will be food, music, fun for kids and much more. The Josef Kroboth Band and Flirtin’ with the Mob will entertain.

Bring your lawn chairs. Everyone is welcome!

The National Night Out Against Crime is set for Aug. 4. NNO is an annual nationwide event designed to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie. Coplay Police Department asks residents, in honor of NNO, to turn on their front porch lights from dusk to midnight to show unity against crime.

The 45th annual Coplay Community Days festival is scheduled for Aug. 28-30. It is a celebration of the local cement industry, particularly the former Coplay Cement Company workers.

There will be music, an array of foods, dancing, friendship and time to reconnect with friends.

The Aardvarks will perform 5 p.m. Aug. 28.

Coplay Sports is holding online-only baseball sign-ups for boys ages 9-18 for the coming fall baseball season. Online registration is available at coplaysports.org.

The mayor’s office is seeking Coplay residents interested in developing and leading a Coplay town watch. Training will be provided in crime watching and activities to increase the safety of Coplay.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the municipal building, will be open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

The model train room is operated by Explorer Post 101. Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.

The mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12- to 21-year-olds. Join the new Explorer Club for youths age 12-14.

The Coplay aerobics classes now meet 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium. There is a cost by donation.

Bring light dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.
