PHS boys lax got back to top of D-11

Scott Ketcham knows how to win District 11 boys lacrosse championships. In his time as the Emmaus High School head coach his teams won three consecutive district titles.

He brought his knowledge and expertise to the Parkland High School program this season.

After an eight-year hiatus from being at the top of the district, the Trojans once again hoisted district gold when they defeated Easton in the District 11 3A championship game back on May 22 for their first district title since 2018.

Parkland, which then lost in the first round of the PIAA state tournament 8-6 to Downingtown West, finished the year 14-7 overall and 7-2 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

The success in the first season under the new regime picked up throughout the season and culminated end at the end of the regular season and into the postseason.

“We built on our success from start to finish of this season,” said Ketcham. “We had a ton to install, but the guys were willing and able to keep progressing all the way to the end.”

In thinking about some of his favorite moments of the season, there were two that came to mind quickly in the mind of Ketcham.

“Highlight No. 1 was of course the Easton game in the district title game,” Ketcham said. “The guys rose to the occasion and put it all together at the best time possible. The turning point of the year was our win vs. Wilson West Lawn. That game proved that we were on the path to a title.”

There are 10 seniors that will be graduating from the program, including Owen Fehnel, John Gerancher, Rob Gerdes, Matt Kelley, Ethan Leaks, Christian Magloire, Owen Radio, Drew Shaffer, Brennan Shaner and Danny Tapia.

Even though he was only with them for one season, the group made an impression with how they dealt with turnover at the top and other challenges.

“The seniors meant everything to us,” said Ketcham. “For a group that went through so many changes, they were still willing to put the hard work in. Seeing their faces with their medals on them will be a core memory for all of us.”

Gerancher led the attack with 60 goals and added 29 assists. Sophomore Colton Arezzi finished with 49 goals and 45 assists. Tapia tallied 31 goals and 18 assists. Sophomore Isaiah Fisher recorded 28 goals and six assists. Junior Bailey Wetmore contributed 17 goals and six assists and classmate Matt Scott added 16 goals and five assists. Sophomore Breckin Serratore had six goals and 10 assists. Fehnel finished with 188 saves in net.

Ketcham and his program are ready for what’s next in 2027.

“What excites me is that we will have to answer the question, will Parkland rebuild or do they reload?” Ketcham said. “We have a great deal of offense returning, but we have some young defensemen ready to step up to the challenge.”
