Trojan baseball team falls in EPC semifinal

Parkland’s run at repeating as East Penn Conference baseball champions ended with a 1-0 loss to Whitehall Monday in a league semifinal match up.

The Trojans committed three errors in the loss and failed to score on five hits and a walk against Zephyr starter Nik Christman, who pitched all seven innings to get the win.

The game’s only run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning when Whitehall loaded the bases with one out on an error, a walk and an intentional walk. The winning run scored with two outs on a bases-loaded walk.

Parkland’s Jack Streeter took the loss despite a solid outing. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed no earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four batters.

Five different Parkland batters had hits in the game, including Tsubasa Magota, Ben Weninger, Luqkai Dickson, Henry Weikel and Grant Damweber.

The No. 3 seed Trojans (15-7) got to the semifinal with a win over No. 6 Pocono Mountain West in last week’s quarterfinal round.

Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, Parkland scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings then added a pair in the sixth for a 5-2 win.

Winning pitcher Sawyer Marstellar allowed two runs on five Cardinal hits over six innings while striking out six batters and walking two. Dempsey Lawson pitched one hitless inning.

Parkland’s five hits were again scattered among five different players, including Aiden Henning (1-for-2, 2 RBI), Carter DeLong (1-for-4, 2 RBI) Magota (1-for-1, walk, run), Streeter (1-for-3, run) and Ben Taylor (1-for-2, walk, RBI).

The Trojans have qualified for the District 11 playoffs and will be the No. 4 seed with a first-round matchup against No. 5 Northampton next week.

In the EPC title game Tuesday, No. 5 seed Allen rolled to an 11-0 win over No. 2 Whitehall.
