PHS boys lax team beats Nazareth, Liberty

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team had a perfect week last week, winning both of its Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games.

To open up the week, the Trojans earned an exciting, one-goal victory at Nazareth, winning 8-7 in three overtimes last Tuesday night, April 2t. Parkland defeated Liberty 20-0 two nights later.

In the victory over the Blue Eagles, Parkland led most of the day, taking a 1-0 edge after the opening quarter and then outscored Nazareth 4-1 in the second to go up 5-1 at halftime. They went into the fourth on top 5-2, but the Blue Eagles stormed back and scored five of the seven goals in the frame to force overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, Matt Scott found the back of the net midway through the third to win it. Colton Arezzi led the attack with three goals and Danny Tapia finished with two goals and an assist. John Gerancher and Isaiah Fisher both had a goal and combined for three assists. Owen Fehnel finished with 13 saves in net, including four in the overtime periods, to earn the victory.

In the win over the Hurricanes, Parkland led from start to finish and had the game out of reach by halftime, outscoring Liberty 10-0 in the second quarter to lead 14-0.

Both Arezzi and Gerancher recorded four goals, with Arezzi adding five assists.

Fisher netted a hat trick and Tapia scored twice, with both contributing an assist.

Nate Lowrey, Drew Shaffer, Scott, Breckin Serratore, Bailey Wetmore, Smith and Brody Krier all found the back of the net once, with Serratore adding two assists. Fehnel made five saves and TJ Smith had one.

Parkland, which improved to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference last week. The team finishes the regular season this week with two EPC games.

The Trojans were at Central Catholic this past Monday night and host Emmaus on Thursday night before opening up play in the EPC playoffs next week.

Parkland resides in fourth place with two league games left on the schedule.

Easton (14-1 overall, 7-0 EPC) leads the league. Central Catholic (9-4, 5-1) is second, followed by Emmaus (9-7, 6-2) in third place.
