Each spring, the local chapter of the Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties hosts the One Step Forward celebration, which is its largest event of the year. This event recognizes individuals and community members making a meaningful impact on the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Lehigh Valley.

The 2026 One Step Forward celebration committee selected Shelley Keffer, coordinator of student services in Catasauqua Area School District, as the recipient of the 2026 Special Education Award. This award is presented to a teacher, administrator or school staff member who has demonstrated innovative and practical approaches to support and empower individuals with diverse learning needs.

Keffer’s commitment to students truly embodies the spirit of this award. Congratulations!
