Clarence J. Jones Jr.

formerly of Orefield

Clarence J. Jones Jr., 89, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., formerly of Orefield, died May 15, 2026, surrounded by family at AdventHealth Daytona Beach. He was the husband of Susan (Casper) Jones, for 66 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Clarence J. Jones Sr. and Maria T. (Fischer) Jones.

He earned a M.Ed. from Lehigh University and a B.A. in sociology from Lycoming College. His distinguished career in education culminated at Cedar Crest College, where he served as chairman of the Education Department from 1991-1998. Before that, he was assistant superintendent of the Salisbury Township School District for 20 years, and earlier a reading consultant at William Allen High School for a decade.

He was a 32-degree Mason of Jordan Masonic Lodge of No. 673 F. & A.M. in Allentown. He also served on the Lehigh County Agricultural Society Board of Directors and Executive Committee, supporting the mission of The Great Allentown Fair. He was a lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown.

He enjoyed his work with The Great Allentown Fair and took pride in serving as an election poll worker.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Pamela S. Roth (Kevin), of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Leslie A. Bartholomew, of Orefield, Jennifer L. Smith, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; sister, Deborah J. Hudock, of Humble, Texas; sister-in-law, Linda L., of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Andrew Roth, Taylor (Tom) Arntz, Brooke Bartholomew; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth F.

A memorial service to celebrate Clarence’s life will be held 11 a.m. June 18, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown, with The Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects 10 a.m. before the service.
