Manny Bolmer first in long jump

For Manny Bolmer, the recent Colonial League meet was similar to a dreamlike atmosphere.

“It felt surreal to be honest,” noted Bolmer. “I just approached leagues with a clear mindset and no expectations at all. Luckily it paid off.”

Bolmer took home gold from the Colonial League meet when he recorded a leap of 22-2. He finished second in the event last season, ironically with a mark of 22-11. Bolmer was fourth at districts with a leap of 21-6.25 He did advance to states, but didn’t place.

His finishes certainly served as a driving force for this year’s meet.

“Yes. I would say placing second last year was a big motivator for me this year,” emphasized Bolmer. “When it came to practices and other meets, I definitely pushed a little harder knowing I wanted to get that gold.

“I do realize that last year’s jump was farther, but I am just glad I got the medal.”

Despite a strong season, Bolmer certainly wasn’t over-confident entering the league meet. But his jumps there led him to a positive conclusion.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect to win leagues, even though I was projected to win and ranked number-one. But after my third jump, I realized I solidified first place after that jump of 21-9 and then on my fifth jump I jumped 22-2, which got me gold.”

Bolmer’s confidence toward capturing the top spot began to build during the season. His best jump was 22-11.5 at Northern Lehigh, in which he beat his previous record of 22-11.

“I was definitely confident, but at that point in the season (at Northern Lehigh), I was frustrated I didn’t hit 23-0. I was just a half an inch away, but the league was definitely on my mind. But I still didn’t have any expectations.”

Bolmer believes his jumps have been aided by his football career. He will continue it at Ursinus College, potentially majoring in sports marketing.

“I would say that football has for sure, primarily being in the weight room,” stated Bolmer. “I genuinely believe it (football) has had a big impact on my jumping.”

Bolmer plans to keep a loose approach at the district meet.

“I am approaching districts with the same approach,” stressed Bolmer. “I just want to have fun and jump my best.”

Head coach Kyle Rusnock believes Bolmer can take his jumps to another level at districts and possibly states.

“Manny had a great league meet, winning with a 22 foot 2-inch jump.” boasted Rusnock. “He was locked in, focused and determined. “Manny has a great shot at winning districts and qualifying for states again.”
