MAMA’S MUSINGS By Lani Goins

May is a busy month. In addition to our normal busy, we have play rehearsals, and my youngest went on his first school trip away from home. I did not go. Frankly, I couldn’t because we are shorthanded at my day job. I felt it would be a better experience for him without me to lean on.

I did my best to prepare him for the trip. I even got the ex to contribute some spending money for him. I prepaid for some of his food. Still, the day before we had to make two trips to get things he needed.

Packing was surprisingly easy. My youngest was able to fit everything in his carry-on backpack.

The morning of the trip, my youngest got dressed in record time. Then he had to run upstairs for his phone charger. On the way out the door, he remembered something else he wanted and needed help finding it.

Still, I managed to get him to drop off on time. That was a relief. But I was nervous for him. Adhd and getting places and following direction can be challenging. Then the tour busses left, and I was still nervous. Thankfully, the group leader sent lots of updates.

I hope he has a wonderful time and comes home safely. I am planning on a nap since I have to pick him up close to midnight.

My older kids had their first overnight a little younger, as their elementary school did a fifth grade overnight trip. Still, I felt the timing was right for my youngest.
