At the Sept. 16 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council approved the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority taxiway A and parking garage reduction security and escrow request presented at the Sept. 2 council meeting. The security cost estimate is in the amount of $1,416,430.95 and the amount of escrow is $50,000.

The parking and walkway project builds a new multilevel structure providing 1,000 additional parking spaces directly across from the main airport terminal. The pedestrian walkway features an elevated, covered and climate-controlled pedestrian bridge connecting the garage directly to ticket counters and security.

Funding for the airport development is backed by state grants that include $1.3 million from the Commonwealth Financing Authority and a $2 million federal grant for elevators and escalators. The project’s completion is expected to occur during late 2028.

Additionally, council approved resolution 2026-43 for a preliminary/final development plan for the LNAA taxiway D and cargo.

Under unfinished business, council approved ordinance 675, bill 2026-07, to approve the solicitation of bids for a contract regarding the 2026 sanitary sewer and storm sewer rehabilitation project, a public capital improvement, to be substantially in the form provided to council.

Its approval, in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, is subject to certain change order and unit price adjustments, and its award will be by resolution of council after such public bidding.

During new business, council approved the authorization to file the minimum municipal obligation non-uniformed pension report.

Council also voted to authorize the township manager to release payment four for SLC Excavating LLC for the Sherwood Park pickleball and basketball courts project in the amount of $18,852.50. The courts are nearing completion and will provide residents of all ages exercise and fun.

The authorization for a time extension request change order for the Sherwood Park pickleball and basketball courts to October 2026 was also approved.

Council approved the minutes of the Sept. 2 meeting and all bills up to Sept. 16.
