Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, 1324 Newport Ave., held a volunteer-led clothing sale Sept. 26 and 27 in the social hall. The tables in the hall were filled with baby, child and adult clothing, shoes and jewelry — with nearly all items $2 or less.

Entering and seeing all the items for sale that were donated by parishioners and the volunteers working the sale, cheerfully interacting with shoppers, prompts one to consider the old religious adage regarding the volunteers, “They are earning their wings.”

Charming, smiling volunteers Sue Lindenmoyer and Lindy Mullner, both of Northampton, greeted attendees, pointed them in the right direction and answered questions.

Just inside the main hall, volunteers Kirsten Trinkle and Kathleen Chimarys, both of Northampton, served as cashiers.

The jewelry department was staffed by four volunteers who were clearly having fun at the most elegant department in the sale. Irene, Paula, Sandi and Christine were very helpful to patrons examining the jewelry for sale. They noted most of the jewelry had been sold.

Roaming around examining the large number of tables and items can work up an appetite. In the kitchen, volunteer Tim Morris, of Northampton, was the designated hot dog chef. Morris diligently tending to the all-beef hot dogs as he strove to cook them to perfection for the attendees.

This sale demonstrated the commitment of the members, volunteers and church leaders at Queenship of Mary who labor to serve the Northampton community.

On a day overshadowed by a nor’easter storm outside, the church social hall had volunteers beaming with warmth and sunshine.
