Barnes goes 3-for-3 in win over Nazareth

The Emmaus High School baseball team won its season opener against Nazareth before dropping a nonleague contest against Blue Mountain.

Emmaus pulled out a 5-4 win over Nazareth to open the season on Thursday, March 19.

Tied at 2-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Hornets put up three runs in the top of the inning and held on for the win.

Robert Barnes went 3-for-3 against Nazareth, while Chase Simmons was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Ten Emmaus players combined for 12 hits in the win.

Jaden Betz got the win, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on two hits and six walks while striking out five.

Cole Moreau allowed three hits and no earned runs over four innings while striking out six batters and walking five.

A day later Emmaus went to Blue Mountain and suffered an 11-0 nonleague loss in five innings.

The Eagles used eight hits, three Hornet errors and five walks issued by three Emmaus pitchers to get to double digits and end the game early.

Emmaus had three hits in the loss with Simmons, Moreau and Drayce Schmidt recording one each.
