Parents and guardians of elementary school students in Northampton Area School District can check out redistricting plans on the district website. The information was posted Sept. 16.
The redistricting will go into effect for the 2026-27 NASD school year, when East Allen Elementary School opens and Moore and Franklin elementary schools will close.
Curt Dimmick, current Moore Elementary School principal, will become principal of the new East Allen Elementary School.
Redistricting information can be found on the district website at nasdschools.org/article/2424169.
“The new district boundaries will require some students, depending on where they live, to attend a different district elementary school for the 2026-27 school year,” the website states.
NASD contracted a consulting firm, FutureThink, to redraw elementary school boundaries, determined by a combination of the school buildings’ capacities, location of homes and new homes being constructed in the district, bus travel times and routes for students, keeping neighborhood students together and special-education requirements.
According to the website:
“Franklin Elementary School will close. The building will be sold. Students attending Franklin will relocate to other district elementary schools.
“George Wolf Elementary School will remain open but may require some students to attend a different district elementary school.
“Lehigh Elementary School will remain open but may require some students to attend a different district elementary school.
“Moore Elementary School will close. Students will relocate to other district elementary schools.
“Siegfried Elementary School will remain open but may require some students to attend a different district elementary school. The school, no longer a grade 1 through grade 5 school, will become a kindergarten through grade 5 school because of Franklin closing.”
An interactive map and feedback form is provided to “help identify your child’s elementary school for the 2026-27 school year,” the website states.
“The following colors on the map represent the school your K-5 elementary child will attend in 2026-27,” the website states. East Allen Elementary is purple; George Wolf Elementary is blue; Lehigh Elementary is green; and Siegfried Elementary is orange.
According to the district website, “The average bus travel time for students will either be the same or less for the 2026-27 school year. The exact pickup and drop-off locations will be sent to you by our transportation department in the summer of 2026.
“During the 2025-26 school year, your child’s principal and the 2026-27 principal will work together to provide information about the 2026-27 school year,” the website states.
In addition to Dimmick, elementary principals are Shannin Peters at Lehigh Elementary School, Steve Serensits at George Wolf Elementary School and Doug Sherman at the Borough Elementary’s Franklin and Siegfried buildings.
The district administration building will close and be sold. Staff will relocate to the new educational center on the new Seemsville Road, East Allen Township.
The Washington Technology Center building will close and be sold. Staff will also relocate to the new educational center.
Parents who have questions are asked to complete the redistricting feedback form available on the website.
“We understand that this is a significant change for you, your child and our district. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we move through this process,” the website states.
The NASD Board of Education next meets 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Northampton Area High School auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave.
