Fourth and fifth grade musicians in the Parkland School District attended a summer music camp held in the high school auditorium July 28-31.
Both strings and band groups practiced in separate spaces, with specific groups, such as percussion, holding sessions in one of the music rooms near the auditorium.
On July 31, both the orchestra, composed of string instruments, and the band performed a concert for family and friends who showed their appreciation with resounding applause.
During rehearsal on July 30, an impromptu group of Parkland High School musician helpers held a jam session performing a delightful jazz number.
Included in the ensemble were Thalia Levine, upright bass, Christina Fastenberg, tenor saxophone, Wallace Morris, trumpet, Emily Laudenslager, tenor saxophone, Danny Collier, drums and Harry Schairer, piano.
It was easy to tell that the young musicians enjoyed their time together as their music was very well played and smiles abounded amongst them.
