Couple scammed

of $20,0000

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, say a 70-year-old male and 71-year-old female from Wynnewood Drive, North Whitehall Township, reported being scammed 5:20 p.m. June 5.

Police say Troopers responded to the above location for a report of a theft by deception.

According to police, the couple allegedly related being scammed out of $20,000 cash after receiving multiple fraudulent emails claiming purchases of Apple products.

These emails contained phone numbers and hyperlinks available for potential victims to dispute the charges.

As a part of the scheme, the actors utilized fake Apple and bank customer support phone numbers to access account information of the couple.

The actors directed the couple to withdraw 10,000 cash from two separate branches of their bank, place it in a box, and hand it to a courier who arrived at their residence and provided a code word.

State police are investigating this theft by deception.

Apple iPad

stolen

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, are investigating the theft of an Apple iPad, Air 11 iPad and Air 11 128 GB from Follett Higher Education, 4525 Education Park Drive, North Whitehall Township, which was reported to police 1:46 p.m. May 29.

According to state police, Troopers were dispatched to the bookstore at Lehigh Carbon Community College for the report of a retail theft 3 p.m. May 13.

Police allege the store manager said an iPad left unsecured was taken by a customer while the front desk was left unattended.

The suspect was captured on in-store video surveillance leaving the bookstore with the iPad passing all points of sale without paying, entered his personal vehicle and left the scene.

The bookstore suffered a $549 loss as a result of the theft.

Driver cited

for crash

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, say Yanny A. Almanzar, 47, of Coplay, was driving a 2021 Honda CRV when it struck an embankment and side swiped a tree around 5:50 p.m. July 11 on Cedar Crest Boulevard, just North of Morgan’s American Restaurant, South Whitehall Township.

According to police, this location is a two-lane highway with one lane of travel North and South.

There were no adverse weather conditions at the time of this crash.

Police say this crash occurred with an initial impact as the Honda veered right off the roadway into a slight embankment, side swiping a tree with the front passenger fender, just above the wheel.

The Honda then continued North on Cedar Crest Blvd., before fleeing South on Mauch Chunk Road, police say.

According to police, there were no reported injuries as a result of this crash.

On July 12, citations were filed against Almanzar through Magisterial District Judge Jacob Hammond, South Whitehall Township.

Police say Almanzar was cited for accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property.

Woman scammed

over Internet

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, say a 72-year-old woman from Old Post Road, North Whitehall Township, reported 10:54 a.m. June 26 a theft of money from Bank of America.

According to police, on June 26, Troopers were dispatched to the residence in North Whitehall Township, for a report of a theft through fraud/forgery.

Police say through an investigation, it was discovered the woman met an unknown individual on an Internet dating website, to which she was scammed out of approximately $40,000.

Through building an online relationship with the unknown individual, the woman willingly sent several payments amounting to approximately $40,000 over the span of multiple transactions, police say.

Items stolen

from grocery store

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, are investigating a retail theft which occurred between April 13 and 10:11 p.m. July 2 at Weis Market, 5020 Route 873, North Whitehall Township.

Grocery items stolen were valued at $119.38, police say.

Police say Linda Kleckner, 84, of Allentown was allegedly identified as the suspect and charged accordingly.
