Trojans will have new lineup after two trips to state finals

The Parkland High School boys volleyball team entered last season on the heels of winning the 2023 state championship.

At the end of the 2024 campaign, the Trojans came one win from repeating as they fell in the state title match.

Parkland finished the season 21-4 overall and won both the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and District 11 championships.

Last year Parkland had the target on its back to open the season, but this time around the Trojans are back to being the hunter.

In 2025, the program will once again be talented and experienced at some key positions, but it will still have to account for losses of some talented players that left as state champions and played in two straight title matches.

“We lost a lot of talent to graduation, and most of our lineup consists of newcomers,” said PHS head coach Scott Trumbauer. “It may take some time for us to feel comfortable playing at the varsity level. We need to continue to grow every week and build solid chemistry before the postseason play begins.”

The top returning players for the Trojans include senior opposite hitter Josh Nation, who was Second Team All-State last season with 275 kills, 116 digs, 25 aces and 29 blocks, senior opposite hitter Nick Bauer and senior middle hitter Alex Schoch, along with junior setter Gabe Chase. A couple of key newcomers that will be in the lineup include junior middle hitter Bear Jacobs, sophomore opposite hitter Zamin Soonasra and freshman middle hitter/opposite hitter Zeke Gordner.

“We return a strong core of seniors in Nation, Bauer, and Schoch, who are expected to lead a very young group of teammates,” Trumbauer said. “This year, we will feature six juniors, five sophomores and one freshman. It will take time for us to learn how to play together, but I’m very excited to watch the process unfold.”
