Catasauqua girls win annual powder puff game
Senior field hockey player Zoe Roth certainly cherished every moment playing in this year’s Powder Puff game against Northampton. The game has been traditionally played before the Thanksgiving Day tilt.
For the second consecutive season, Catasauqua won the game. This time around, the Rough Riders downed the Konkrete Kids, 19-13, on Nov. 19. Last season, Catty won, 13-6.
Jade Keys-Pujols, Jasmine Perez, and Maya Osorto scored touchdowns for the Roughies. Osorto kicked the extra point to tie the game at 13.
“I really enjoyed playing in the game,” gushed Roth, who was a cornerback. “I think it is a great tradition for both schools.
“Preparing and practicing for the game was just as much fun as playing in the game. It was nice to play with my friends that I don’t usually get to play sports with. Also, it was great to watch the seniors come together.
“My favorite moment was when my friend Jade Keys-Pujols caught an interception to win the game for us.”
Fellow senior and field hockey teammate Julianna Vazquez also was pleased with her effort and her team’s performance.
“I thought the game was extremely fun on and off the field,” beamed Vazquez. “I’m so glad that I joined the team. My favorite moment was the final countdown of the game when we won. We all ran on the field to celebrate.
“Everyone did their best, so I think it was a well-deserved win.”
Head coach Andrew Oswald, who is an assistant baseball coach, was pleased with his team’s overall showing.
“Overall, we played a good game,” said Oswald. “Faith Daku had a couple of long runs during the game and the offensive line players blocked well for everyone.
“Defensively, Jada (Keys-Pujols) had a key interception at the end of the game that allowed us to run out the clock. Nicole Pena had a touchdown-saving stop in the second half. Kennosh Brown and Daisy Robinson made things very difficult on the quarterbacks for Northampton throughout the game.
“The girls did a great job, and it was a fun night for everyone involved.”
