Authorities collect old drugs for incineration at part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Press Photo by Jim Marsh The 26th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was held April 27, when area residents could discard expired, unwanted and unused prescription and over-the-counter medications at multiple police-staffed locations throughout Lehigh County. ABOVE: Emmaus Police Department Sgt. Vince Murante supervises the take back in Emmaus and reported a “pretty light” flow of drop offs. He attributed the slow day to the fact a discard drop-off box is available daily in the vestibule of the Emmaus Police Station, along Jubilee Street in the borough. That permanent drop-off is used frequently, he said. The discarded drugs are collected by the DEA and safely incinerated.
