LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LV Charter Arts news By Bee Kanofsdky

Spring is here and students at Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts (Charter Arts) look forward to many spring season events, concerts, recitals, showcases and exhibits.

The production arts department kicks off the spring season in collaboration with the school’s dance, music and theatre departments, with its production of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”- a musical by Rupert Holmes. According to Concord Theatricals’ description of the show, it is “based on Charles Dickens’ final unfinished novel. This hilarious whodunit invites the audience to solve its mystery by choosing the identity of the murderer. The tale is presented as a show-within-a-show, as the Music Hall Royale - a delightfully loony Victorian theatre company - presents Dickens’ brooding mystery.” The show runs through March 24.

After spring break, students and staff will return to a busy month of April events presented by the school’s various artistic departments that include Young Choreographers in Concert, Literary Arts Showcase at the Lodge, Night of Percussion!!!, Contemporary Music Ensemble Concert, Literary Arts Junior Showcase, Faculty and Alumni Art Exhibit, Brass and Woodwind Recital and An Evening with Guitar.

The month wraps with a student-produced Hispanic Arts Show to showcase a variety of student performances, talent and artwork.

May events include Production Arts Portfolio Review, An Evening with Strings, Literary Arts Reading at the Lodge, New Plays Festival, Dance Quilt, Spring Instrumental & Choral Concerts, Senior Instrumental and Vocal showcases, Spring Piano Recital, and Jazz Cafe. The spring season will conclude with an Opening Art Reception for the Senior Art Exhibit, taking place as part of the Southside Arts District’s June First Friday celebration.

The students and faculty put in countless hours to produce these exceptional events. The community is welcome to experience all that these shows have to offer. Show and ticket information is available on the school’s website, CharterArts.org. Charter Arts is located at 321 East Third St., Bethlehem.
