22nd Freddy Awards high school musicals announced

The State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, has announced the 22nd Freddy Awards list of participating schools and musicals.

The 22nd Freddy Awards Ceremony is 7 p.m. May 23, State Theatre.

Look for the “High School Musicals” preview series in the Focus section of Lehigh Valley Press newspapers and websites.

Since 2003, the Freddy Awards has recognized high school musicals presented in Lehigh and Northampton counties and Warren County, N.J.

The Freddy Awards was a virtual event in 2020 and 2021 after the Pennsylvania governor ordered schools closed March 16, 2020, because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The live Freddys telecast resumed for its 20th anniversary in 2022.

According to State Theatre officials, the Freddys program impacts more than 2,900 students in the region each year. More than $2 million in scholarships, internships and community awards has been distributed through the Freddy Awards.

In addition, hundreds of thousands of people view the Freddy Awards Ceremony, telecast live on WFMZ Channel 69.
