Trexler leads PAC in TFLs; Ntoh scores 14 TDs

Many former Hornet athletes competed on college teams last fall. Here’s a look at some of them.

Football

Running back Sone Ntoh played in all 11 games for the Monmouth University football team in 2023. The graduate student rushed for 411 yards and a team-high 14 touchdowns on 56 carries while also catching four passes for 54 yards. Ntoh played three season at Harvard University before finishing his college football career at Monmouth. He played in 19 games for the Crimson, rushing for 370 yards over three seasons.

Senior Izaiah McPherson played in all 11 games this fall for the West Chester University football team. The defensive back has played in every Rams game over the past four seasons. McPherson tied for a team high with four interceptions this fall and has picked off eight passes during his college career. He also forced a fumble and was in on 16 tackles (13 solo).

Linebacker Tim Higgins led the Muhlenberg College football team with six sacks and two forced fumbles in 2023. He also made 15 solo tackles this season. A graduate student, Higgins played in 27 games over three seasons, making 37 tackles (19 solo). He also ran the ball 10 times in his career, all in 2021, for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Linebacker Gabe Trexler led the Geneva College football team with 86 tackles in 2023, including a team-high 45 solo stops. He finished second in the President’s Athletic Conference in tackles and tackles for loss with 16. The junior earned a place on the All-PAC Second Team defense.

Several former Hornets were part of the Moravian University football team this fall. Freshman linebacker Jackson Lake made 17 tackles while playing in six games for the Greyhounds in 2023. He also had one reception for 18 yards. Freshman Elijah Fajardo played in all 10 games and made 16 tackles. The defensive back broke up three passes in his first college season. Freshman defensive lineman EJ Boney made seven tackles while playing in eight games. He had one tackle for loss. Defensive back Chad Newhard played in four games and made three assisted tackles this season for Moravian. The junior has played in 20 games and made 106 tackles in his three seasons in Bethlehem.

Albright College cornerback Sam Moratori played in seven games and made 23 tackles in 2023. The sophomore has played in 16 games over two seasons with 53 career tackles.

Junior offensive lineman Justin Roman played in five games for the Delaware Valley College football team in 2023. The Aggies (9-2) went 9-0 in league play, 9-1 overall and won their sixth straight league title before falling to Union College (NY) in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Freshman Dylan Darville played in five games for the Yale football team this fall. The defensive back made one tackle in his first season with the Bulldogs.

A few former Hornets were part of the team at Wilkes University last fall. Freshman Tylik Jarvis played in five games for the Colonels in 2023. He carried the ball 11 times for 66 yards while also catching one pass, returning a pair of kickoffs and making one tackle in his first college season. Punter Alex Orlando played in all 11 games for the Colonels, making 48 punts for an average of 41.2 yards with seven pinning opponents inside their 20-yard line. In three seasons Orlando has played in 31 games and made 121 punts for an average of 40.2 yards with 22 of them keeping opponents inside their ow 20. Long snapper Nick Davidson played in nine games last season and made two solo tackles for the Colonels. He’s played in 17 games over the past two seasons. Sophomore defensive lineman Trevor Gitski played in five games and made three tackles in 2023.

Field Hockey

Freshman Abby Burnett was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team this season. She started all 17 games in the midfield for the Wolverines and scored one goal in her first college season and helped the Michigan defense hold opponents to just 1.13 goals and 8.9 shots per game.

Junior Annika Herbine played in all 19 games and made 16 starts at the University of Iowa in 2023. The forward sored four goals and assisted on 10 (tied for team-high). Over three seasons Herbine has played in 59 games, making 35 starts with 14 goals and 20 assists in her college career. Freshman Rachel Herbine played in 19 games and made four starts at Iowa this fall. The forward scored two goals on 10 shots for the Hawkeyes.

Redshirt freshman Kyleigh Faust started all 20 games at Liberty University in 2023. She scored three goals and assisted on two in her first college season.

Millersville University sophomore Emily Buss played in all 17 games for the second consecutive season for the Maruaders. The forward scored one goal this season and has two goals and an assist for her career.

Sophomore Maddie Huffer played in 16 games and made 15 starts at Mercyhurst last fall. The midfielder scored two goals and assisted on three in her second season with the Lakers. Huffer also played in 16 games and made 15 starts as a freshman, scoring two goals in her first college season.

Two former Hornets were a part of the Misericordia University field hockey team. Tattyanna Lainez played in 15 games and made 11 starts last fall. The forward scored one goal and assisted on two for the Cougars. In two seasons Lainez has played in 33 games (25 starts) and scored five goals with five assists. Sophomore Abigail O’Donnell played in 15 games and started 14 in 2023. She scored two goals and assisted on one. In two seasons O’Donnell has three goals and two assists while starting 29 games an playing in 32.

Junior Jenna Villeneuve played in 17 games at Cornell University last fall, assisting on one goal. The midfielder has played in 25 games over the past two seasons for the Big Red.

Junior Bailey Tietz played in nine games and made eight starts at Georgetown University last fall. The goal keeper stopped 42 shots in 2023 after missing the 2022 season with an injury.

Soccer

University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown junior Alexzander Toto earned a place on the All-PSAC Western Division Second Team in 2023. The midfielder scored two goals and assisted on two this fall, bringing his career totals to eight goals and five assists over three seasons. Toto played in 14 matches and made 13 starts this season, finishing second on the team with 1135 minutes of playing time.

Redshirt junior Thomas Hanvey played in seven games and made one start for the West Chester University mens soccer team in 2023. The defender has played in 38 games and started 25 in three seasons of college soccer. He’s scored one goal and assisted twice. Sophomore Jaeden Amato played in 10 games and started five at West Chester this fall. The defender has played in 23 games and started 13 in two seasons with the Rams.

Junior Patrick Walsh played in 14 games and made nine starts for the Bloomsburg University mens soccer team in 2023. The 2022 All-PSAC Second Team selection had two assists this fall and has six goals and six assists over three seasons with the Huskies.

Senior Andrew Gaines played in seven games and scored one goal this season at Muhlenberg College. The forward/midfielder played in 40 games and made seven starts in three seasons with the Mules, scoring three goals and assisting twice in his college career.

Junior Jake Hein played in all 17 games and made 16 starts for the DeSales University mens soccer team this fall. The defender scored three goals and assisted on one in 2023. Sophomore forward Ryan Flor played in 15 games and started three for the Bulldogs this season, scoring two goals.

Sophomore Carlos Morales played in 19 games and made six starts last fall at Hood College. The midfielder has played in 32 games and made 17 starts in two seasons with the Blazers.

Freshman Ryan Latchford played in 10 games and started one for the Moravian University mens soccer team in 2023. The midfielder scored one goal in his first season of college soccer.

Senior Lauren Latchford played in all 17 games and started 12 for the Moravian University womens soccer team in 2023. The defender has played in 46 games and started 14 over four seasons in Bethlehem, scoring one career goal.

Junior Lindsey Aiken started in all 19 games at East Carolina University last fall, helping the Pirates (9-5-5) to the American Athletic Conference Championship game. Aiken, a defender, scored one goal in her third season of college soccer and has assisted on four through her career. She has started 36 games in the last two years.

Senior Sydney Cole played in 11 games last fall for the Kutztown University women’s soccer team. A forward, Cole has played in 31 games and made three starts over three seasons.

Senior goal keeper Alex Ryan played in four games and made three starts for the Bloomsburg University women’s soccer team this fall, making 10 saves. The former Hornet has played in 29 games and made 26 starts over three seasons with the Huskies.

Freshman Casey Bender played in 17 games and made 17 atarts for the Allegheny College womens soccer team last fall. The forward was thrid on the team with 14 points (4 goals, 6 assists), including a three-assist game against Cheltenham. He six assists put the former Hornet sixth in the Presidents Athletic Conference in 2023.

Cross Country

Former Emmaus runners Geoffrey Kleinberg, Paul Petre and Brendon Ward were part of the Landmark Conference Champion Moravian University mens cross country team in 2023. Kleinberg, a junior, finished 42nd at the league championship meet, while seniors Ward (56th) and Petre (60th) for a team that placed 16 runners within the top 60 places at the championship meet.

Volleyball

Macy Van Den Elzen saw action in three matches this fall at Penn State University. The senior has played in five matches over the past two seasons.

Junior Makenzie Krasley played in 22 matches and 63 sets for the Moravian University womens volleyball team in 2023. She was fifth on the team with 76 kills. Over three seasons Krasley has played in 254 sets and 78 matches, recording 367 kills.

Freshman Madisyn Heiser-Elsea played in 74 sets and 24 matches at Kings College last fall. The middle hitter/opposite hitter had 61 kills and 14 digs in her first season with the Monarchs.

Golf

Sophomore Matt Zerfass was a member of the St. Joe’s University golf team last fall, helping the Hawks tie for third place at the Cornell Invitational. The former East Penn Conference champ placed 15th at the City 6 Championship and 17th in the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate Challenge during the first half of his sophomore season with the Hawks.

Lehigh University sophomore Aiden LeBlanc made three birdies in his final round to shoot 155 (79-76) in the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club’s Grace Course in October to take 35th place. The former Hornet also placed 12th at Binghamton’s Matthew Auto Invitational at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Aplachin, NY, this fall. He shot a 1-under par 143 (69-74) at the event.

Susquehanna University sophomore Patrick Bova helped the River Hawks finish eighth in the Landmark Conference’s Fall Preview at Shawnee Golf Resort in October. The former Hornet shot 167 (23-over par) for two rounds.
