Falcon wrestlers look to build on 10-win season

The Salisbury High School wrestling team is coming off one of its best seasons in decades. The Falcons went 10-5 in 2022-23 and are looking to continue to improve and build off that success this winter.

Head coach Eric Snyder knows he has a younger and more inexperienced group at his disposal, but his grapplers have been working hard in the offseason and preseason in hopes of tasting more success this season.

Some of the top returning grapplers from last year include Jakub Gloc (34-10, 27 pins, District 3rd, Regional 8th) at 189/215; Sam Krauss at 285; Ethan Sandford (District 11 JV Champ) at 215; Jake Watson at 172; Nate Tone at 160; Jordan Tocci at 145; Jaxon McGuckin at 114 or 121 and Edwin Serrano at 127 or 133. A couple newcomers in the lineup include Michael Segata at 133 or 139 and Colby Townley.

“We are still a young team with some inexperience, but the kids have been working hard to get themselves ready for the start of the season,” said Snyder. “We could have a really good one-two-three punch with Gloc, Krauss and Townley if everything pans out.”

The probable lineup in each weight class this season could look like the following: 107- Tommy Pojanowski, 114- McGuckin, 121- Zeke Rodas, 127- Serrano, 133- Townley/Segata, 139- Townley/Segata, 145- Jordan Tocci-Wachter, 152- Gavin Cerco/Colton Tone, 160- Nate Tone/Watson, 172- Tone/Watson, 189- Gloc, 215- Sandford and 285- Krauss.

“We are looking to build off our best season in probably 30 years after going 10-5 last year,” said Snyder. “We have a talented group of wrestlers coming back with Jakub Gloc and Sam Krauss leading the way. The return of Colby Townley will give us a good one-two-three punch with those three guys and will give us a good chance in reaching double digit wins again as a team.

“If the younger wrestlers progress like we hope, we will be in the mix of cracking the district duals. Gloc is 40 wins away from 100 and with having 34 wins last year, that goal is within reach.”

Salisbury’s 2023-24 season begins next Friday night with its home and Colonial League opener against Northwestern.
