District News: WHS students invited to register for Nov. 2 LCTI open house

Last chance! Is your child interested in attending Lehigh Career and Technical Institute? Consider registering for its open house, starting 6 p.m. Nov. 2.

Reminder: The first marking period ended Nov. 1. Final grades for the marking period will be available through the parent portal Nov. 8. Paper report cards will also be sent home with your child that day.

Please make a point to review your child’s progress, congratulate them on their efforts and help them write down goals for the next marking period. Let’s make a point to keep improving and be goal oriented!

Whitehall-Coplay School District will accept new and gently used winter coats for children in kindergarten through 12th grade 9-11 a.m. Nov. 4 in the cafeteria at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road. Pull up to door number 42, facing Mechanicsville Road.

Do you love math? Do you love to compete? Then Math 24 Club needs you! Zephyr Elementary School is looking for 24 students for its after-school club, with a chance to compete in the spring’s competition against other school districts.

Students will meet once a month after school to practice their math facts and learn different levels of difficulties for the competition.

Complete the application on the Zephyr Buzz newsletter link if you are interested in joining. Sign-ups end Nov. 4. Participants selected will be notified by Nov. 7.

Please be advised that attendance, discipline referrals and grades will be a consideration for participation.

The Pennsylvania Youth Survey is coming.

During the week of Nov. 6-10, fourth-graders will be participating in the PAYS during STEM classes.

The survey records student results anonymously and provides district staff with important information about risk and protective factors. These results will be used to review and optimize student services in the future.

Join in the fun at Zephyr Elementary for a Mad Science program Nov. 15. Pizza will be served 5:30 p.m. and Spin, Pop, Boom Mad Science begins 6 p.m.

The event is free and open to all.

Parent-teacher conferences at Zephyr are coming up. Your child’s teachers will be reaching out through Dojo with information on how to reserve an appointment. Appointments will be available Nov. 17, 20 and 21.

Students will be dismissed noon on conference days.

Reading Olympics is coming to Zephyr. Does your child love to read? Does he or she love competition? Zephyr Elementary’s librarian, Ms. Matejcek, is looking for a group of avid readers to lead the team.

The team will get together Wednesdays after school in preparation for a regional competition in the spring.

Interested readers are required to apply by visiting the link on the Buzz weekly newsletter or by contacting Matejcek.
