LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Fun on a Rainy Day

It didn’t rain all afternoon - just most of it. But the rain had no apparent effect on attendance at Hanover Township’s annual festival held on Oct. 7 at the Community Center off Jacksonville Road in Bethlehem. Young families brought rain wear and umbrellas so they could enjoy the hayride; grandparents joined them inside the Community Center for music and snacks. Volunteers provided directions and offered treats, which included books for children from the Bethlehem Area Public Library.

Rodney Lose of HR Designs in Howard, PA, entertained visitors by carving the figure of a bear (shown here in an early stage) from wood using chain saws. He sees the figure inside the uncut wood, he explained, and all he does is to “bring it out.” A bald eagle that he created was on display in the Community Center's lobby.
School children, many wearing Halloween costumes, line up for free books offered by Telly Diacogiannis, the township's representative to the Bethlehem Area Public Library.

Kids who took the tractor ride got to choose a pumpkin to take home and decorate.
DH Productions provided music for the (indoor) activities. One of the DJs, Korey Anakin, brought his son to the show.
The second DJ from DH Productions, Drew Charles, came to the fest with two sons.
Michael Valenti brought his infant son, Jackson, to the Fest. “We want to take him to everything the family goes to,” Valenti said.

Marshmallows dipped in melted chocolate (and covered with nuts, if you liked) are – not surprisingly – a great favorite with both children and adults. Ken Lowe has a busy time feeding the crowd.
