NWL boys get to 13-0

The wins keep coming for Northwestern Lehigh as the boys’ soccer team moved to 13-0-0 overall and 10-0-0 in the Colonial League with wins over Palmerton (2-7-0 Colonial, 4-9-0) and Bangor (5-3-1, 7-4-1) recently.

In the 9-1 win against Bangor, Matt Johnson had three goals and three assists to become the school’s all-time points scored leader. A week earlier, he took over the top spot as Northwestern’s all-time goal scorer.

Jack Mauro scored two goals and chipped in with two assists in the win, while Jack van Lierop, Caelan Stangil, Isaac Frey, and Caden Mertz also scored in the win. In assists, van Lierop had two and Stangil also had an assist for the Tigers.

After five days off, Northwestern went to Bangor and downed the Slaters 2-0 on goals from van Lierop and Stangil and an assist from Tim Zellner. The win was the 10th shutout of the season for the Tigers with Brandon Krapf in goal.

The upcoming schedule has Northwestern facing Wilson (7-3-0, 8-4-0) before facing two nonleague contests when they play at Upper Perkiomen (9-2-0) and Pine Grove (8-3-0).

Northwestern has wrapped up a playoff spot and a first-round bye in Colonial League play and has also qualified for districts. The Tigers are currently the top seed in 2A for districts.
