Lower Mac extends LVL win streak to seven straight games

It might be a bit too little too late for Lower Macungie to overtake South Parkland in the Lehigh Valley Legion regular season. The Mustangs won seven games in a row to improve to 10-5 this season with one game remaining. They headed into this week’s game in second place behind the Trojans (12-3-1).

The winning streak started on June 19 and continued last week with three victories, including one against first-place South Parkland and two against Allentown.

Pitching has been leading the way for Lower Mac. In a 9-0 win over Allentown last Thursday, June 29, Ryan Latchford pitched a 2-hit shutout while striking out four batters and walking none over seven innings.

Tyler Geist had the majority of his team’s hits in the win, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored on a day when Lower Mac was limited to five hits by Allentown pitchers.

One day later the Mustangs traveled to Parkland High School and came from behind for a 6-3 win over South Parkland.

The Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but a four-run second inning put Lower Mac in front for good.

Eight different Lower Mac batters had one hit each in the game. Lower Mac took advantage of three Trojan errors.

Starting pitcher Anthony McWhinney got the win, pitching four innings and allowing just two runs while striking out two batters. Zachary McEllroy (2 IP, 4H, 1ER) and Geist (1 IP 0H, 0R) finished off the win.

Lower Macungie finished the week with a 3-1 win over Allentown on Sunday in a game that was shortened to five innings because of rain. Michael Kernechel pitched two innings and allowed two hits and one unearned run before Drew McGeehan pitched a hitless fifth inning.

Geist got the start and allowed just one hit and no runs over two innings.

Logan Ravier and Ryan Bennett had two hits each for Lower Mac.

The Mustangs were scheduled to finish their season Monday evening (after Press deadline) with a game against third-place North Parkland (9-4-1). The Buffaloes could take over second place with a win.
