Szeplaki, Dolak take district bronze medals

Andrew Szeplaki and Brady Dolak captured bronze medals at the District XI Class 3A Track and Field Championships on May 16 and 17 at Whitehall High School.

Szeplaki tied for third place with Whitehall’s Greg Sommer in pole vault, clearing 13-03.00.

Dolak placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.85.

“I tried to hang back behind the pack so they could break some of the wind for me, and I made a break at the last 150,” said Dolak, a junior. “I’ve still got one more year. I got a little cut off at one point, but I kept going. I didn’t want to hold back.”

Konkrete Kids who placed in the district top 10 included fifth place finishers, Boden Burkhart in pole vault, clearing 12-9, Andrew Whitman in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.35, Anne Beenders in triple jump with a distance of 36-0.5, and Szeplaki in high jump, clearing 6-1.

Seventh place finishers were Deric Fritzges in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.27, and Tyler Mikovitch in javelin with a throw that measured 156-2.

Danika Cuchran was eighth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.86, and Leah Jenkins was eighth in high jump, clearing 4-11.

Ninth place finishers were Avery Peluzak in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.81, Jenkins in triple jump with a distance of 34-0.5, and Fritzges in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.76.

Tymir Williams came in 10th place in triple jump with a distance of 41-8.75.
