Track earns five medals at EPC meet

Northampton’s track and field team clinched five individual medals at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Track and Field Championships on May 9 and 10 at Whitehall High School.

Boden Burkhart and Andrew Szelpski tied for second place in pole vault with jumps of 12-06.00, earning silver medals for each of the Konkrete Kids.

Anne Beenders won a third-place medal in long jump with a distance of 17-01.25 despite feeling under the weather.

“It feels amazing, really,” she said. “My run was definitely different. I did a five-step instead of a seven-step run, and I lifted my knees up more to really extend myself to jump.”

Danika Cuchran took fourth place in 300 hurdles with a time of 49.16.

Brady Dolak placed fourth in the 800 meter run.

“I’m very happy. I came in today, hoping to P.R., and I did that by two seconds which I’m really happy about. Medaling just came with it,” he said.

Dolak’s time was 1:56.87.

“It’s not my favorite event. It’s one lap a little too long,” Dolak smiled. “I kind of went off Jordan Gagner from Nazareth. I tried to pace off his shoulder. I think it’s definitely my coach (Dave Albright) helping me out and pushing me at practices a lot more. We’re doing a lot of speed stuff to help me.”

The Konkrete Kids will have competed in the District XI Class 3A Track and Field Championships on May 16 and 17 at Whitehall High School where qualifiers will advance to the state meet later this month.
