During the Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting April 5, council approved the third annual Hanover Township Community Night. It will be held 4-7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Canal Park, 1960 N. Dauphin St.

At the event, Hanover Township will sponsor Community Partners for Kids, which is a child fingerprinting program.

Another event being touted by the township is the First Regional Compost Authority Earth Day Mulch Madness, set for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 21 and 8 a.m.-noon April 22. FRCA is located at 6701 Weaversville Road, East Allen Township.

Visit frcaweb.org or facebook.com/FirstRegionalCompostAuthority for more information.

Earth Day is celebrated around the world. It promotes the understanding of important global environmental issues.

As a result, celebrations focus on thinking globally and acting locally, such as planting trees, cleaning up water resources, helping in a community garden or providing an event that offers materials, such as natural mulch, to grow plants and beautify the environment.

The first Earth Day celebration was in 1970.

Mulch Madness is offering mulch material that is double ground, all natural and has no dye. There is a $10 admission charge that allows unlimited site visits to retrieve mulch. A hand stamp is provided for reentry.

There is no residency requirement, and free loading of vehicles or trailers is permitted. Tractor-trailers are excluded from free loading.

Council passed resolution 2023-34 that sets aside May 2 as Pennsylvania State Police Day in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

Permission was also granted by council to have township Engineer Al Kortze advertise the Valley Plaza sewer project.

Council approved a public hearing May 3 regarding conditional use for correction of ownership of the parcel for Lot 5A at 800 Willowbrook Road, Allentown.

The next council meeting will be 7 p.m. April 19 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove Road. It is an in-person meeting only.
