Upper Milford Township residents who visit the Emmaus Public Library, the home library for township residents, may notice a significant change when checking out books.

In late November, crews upgraded the circulation desk and entrance at the library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus. The new desk, designed by library furniture specialists J.P. Jay Associates, of Allentown, came in three sections and was assembled on site, Emmaus Library Director Maryellen Kanarr said in an interview Nov. 29. Library staff and volunteers made suggestions to designers including improved visibility and functionality. The new desk is Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.

Emmaus Public Works department also helped, Kanarr said.

The library entrance received an upgrade including new flooring in the foyer for a smoother access into the library, particularly for library visitors who may use walkers, canes or wheelchairs. Also prominently displayed at the new desk are three key words from the library’s mission statement; Enrich, Inspire, Unite.

The upgrades were made possible through a grant from the Harry C. Trexler Trust, Kanarr said.

“It changes the face of the library,” Kanarr said.

The Lower Milford Supervisors next regular meeting is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Dec. 15. The reorganization meeting is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Jan. 3, 2023 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
