MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS

Memorial Day is the day on which we honor and mourn those who died while serving in the armed forces of the United States and rededicate ourselves to serving our community and nation to ensure their lives were not wasted. Saturday, May 28 to Monday, July 4

SteelStacks will be draped with images of local military heroes as a display of the appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifices and contributions. The banners will display photos of the soldiers, their rank, branch of service, era of service and hometown. “Our Hometown Heroes” at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way.

Sunday, May 29

Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs Car Show, sponsored by Advance Auto Parts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration for cars ends at 12:30 p.m. Part of the proceeds for every car registered will benefit Operation Address the Homeless and America On Wheels. Trophies will be awarded to the top 25 cars. Open class registration. Winners will be recognized on the video board before the game. Coca-Cola Park, 1050 Ironpigs Way, Allentown.

Monday, May 30

TAPS Over Bethlehem, 8 a.m. beginning at Nisky Hill Cemetery. Trumpeters will sound their instruments for more than three miles.

Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade. The Lehigh Valley Military Council and the United Veterans of Bethlehem. Starts at 9 a.m. at Liberty HS parking lot. Proceeds up Linden Street to Bethlehem Memorial Park. Lowering of Old Glory to half mast until noon. Program: in case of rain, the event will be held in the Liberty HS auditorium.

Salute the Troops with the Allentown Band. 3 p.m. Rose Garden Bandshell. Eighth Avenue and Broad Street. Sponsored by the Morning Star Rotary Club.

100th anniversary of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem. Ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m., evening festivities from 5 to 10 p.m. Four different music venues, food, drinks.
